One of the most important questions parents new to the PYP want to know about the PYP is does it work? The IB has been conducting a number of research projects with major Universities around the world to investigate this question and the latest paper was published this week looking at the impact of The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in Victorian Government primary schools, Australia.
This research (which you can read the summary of by clicking the link above) found that reading and numeracy levels in the 13 PYP schools in Victoria State were above the national average. Equally important the research showed that students were very positive to their learning in PYP Schools with 92.8% students agreeing with the statement "I am interested and involved in my own learning."
This increasing body of research evidence about the effectiveness of the PYP emphasises what we already know at ISS that the programme produced empowered students with a love of learning.

With holidays coming up I thought it a good time to repost the important information with regards to school absences , which I shared at the start of the school year (August 22nd blog post). It is particularly important that parents of students on Students Passes read this information carefully.
Important points of information
Absences
- Please inform your child's teacher in writing (either email or note) if your child is off sick for the day.
- If your child is off sick for an extended period of time (i.e more than 5 school days) please provide a doctors note.
- If you need to request a leave of absence from the school during the school year please contact the Principal.
- It is particularly important the students who are studying with us on Student Passes (SP) inform us promptly of any absences since the school is legally required to inform the Immigrations and Check Point Authority (ICA) if any Student Pass holder fails to comply with any of the below-mentioned attendance requirements:
a)He/She should not be absent from classes for a continuous period of 7 days or more (including weekends) without a valid reason *
b)His/Her attendance rate should not fall below 90% in any month of the course without a valid reason. *
*Valid reason includes the student being granted a Medical Leave by a doctor or a Leave of Absence by the school
