I am often asked what makes an international school 'international'?
- Is it the broad mix of nationalities and cultures amongst the students, parents and staff?
- Is it a balanced curriculum that exposes students to a rich variety of experiences from different countries and cultures?
- Is it developing an open minded attitude in students to enabling them to value their own culture whilst having empathy with people from different cultural backgrounds?
This depth of international knowledge allows ISS to provide rich outward looking experiences for our students. To name just a few from the last weeks:
Grade 4 have visited the Buddhist and Sikh temples as part of their Belief Systems unit
Grade 4 took part in the international Tea Pot Journey Math project receiving the pot from Australia and sending it on to Canada.
Grade 5 have Skyped Sri Lanka as part of their work for Exhibition
The Chinese Dragon Dance has taken place at School
Grade 2 have been learning about buildings around the World
In PE students have joined students in 121 schools and 13 countries as part of the Burp It On Challenge
Combined the diversity of the schools population with these range of experiences help ISS students to appreciate the diverse and interconnected world they live in and develop the knowledge and skills required to be highly successful members of that world.
Students in School after Pick Up
It is lovely to see parents and students enjoying the facilities at ISS to socialise after the students have been picked up. Please reminder however that parents are responsible for ensuring that students are not interfering with ECA's, meetings or other activities taking place after school.
