Camps are an important part of young people's eduction as they allow them to socialise and enjoy new experiences, in the process developing skills that are vital for their future success.
Construction news
The bore wells on the school side of the road have now completed their job and so all construction work is now behind the sound barrier. As a result there continues to be very little impact upon the learning environment at ISS.
In- service day on Friday
A reminder that this Friday 8th May there will be no school for students as it is an In Service Training Day for staff.
Information and Social Event
On May 14th from 6:30 p.m to 8:00 p.m, ISS will be hosting an enjoyable social and information evening for parents on the theme of 'The Power of Play'. This event is open to parents from within and beyond the ISS community so please feel free to invite any friends you think might be interested.
With the long holidays coming up, we will be looking at how parents can enhance and support children's natural love of play and how to take advantage of the learning opportunities play offers.
There will be a chance to play, learn, have refreshment and chat with other parents in sessions hosted by:
Nathan Horne: Nathan has recently returned from being the Keynote Speakers at the prestigious European Council of International Schools PE Conference in Munich. Nathan is an in-demand speaker at conferences throughout the world on the theme of Inquiry and PE. He will be explaining some of the w ays that you can support you child's physical play and the impact this has on their general learning and well being.
Colin Gallagher: Colin is the author of Minecraft in the Classroom. He has spoken at many conferences about how to harness students' love of Minecraft as a learning tool. Recently he was invited by Microsoft to act as a consultant on the future direction of Minecraft in education. Colin will be leading a hands on workshop with parents where you can learn about Minecraft and the opportunities it offers.
Alison Camire: Alison is the author of the very popular Alison Educates Blog and is an expert in Early Years learning through play. She will be running a session on how we can develop learning through play for younger children.
Hima Venkateswaran: Is a highly experienced educator and consultant. She has a particular passion for children learning from nature and will be running a session on the importance of getting children into nature and places to do this in Singapore.
Derek Pinchbeck : I'll be hosting the event and sharing some of the ideas I've developed over the years in my Blog www.thirstforthinking.org in a brief opening session.

Date to remember
On the evening of 2nd June ISS will be hosting an exhibition of our students art work. This will include the chance to bid on pieces of art. All money raised will be going to help the Singapore Red Cross provide relief for those effected by the Nepalese Earthquake. More details will follow in next weeks blog.
