A very happy Lunar New Year to all our families and especially to those of you for whom this is a special celebration. The celebrations began here at ISS today with an excellent Chinese New Year assembly where Grades 5 and Grade 1 showed their language skills and love of performing.
When students return to school on Thursday 11th, ISS will be visited by the Lion Dance Performers at 9:00 a.m. Parents are welcome to come to the ES playground and join in the celebrations. Students are encouraged to wear red or Chinese costume on Thursday to celebrate the Lion Dance visit.
The two days in school next week will both be Dress Up days as Friday 12th marks the start of our Author Week celebrations with Book Character Day. Students are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. We will have a parade of characters at 8:10 which parents are welcome to attend. Following the parade the Book Fair (see poster below) will be in the Library until 4:30. It will be a great chance to buy books for your children.
The following week is our Author Week and we have great authors coming into school to work with our students. You can find out more by clicking on their names.

Football Triumphs
All three of our football teams improved steadily throughout the season and by Finals time last Saturday each team was more than capable of competing with the bigger schools.
Our U11 Girls team, although ravaged by illness, persisted through many steamy and wet afternoons and celebrated by winning their first game of the season on Finals day.
Our U11 Boys team worked hard throughout the season and in their finals narrowly missed out on a medal, losing a heartbreaking penalty shootout, before going on to finish a very respectable 5th place in a very tough division.
Our 10 Boys team, although small in number, proved to be the giant killers of their division, finishing in second place and taking home the silver medal. It was a wonderful achievement for a group of boys who worked so hard all season and really developed as a team along the way.
Well done to all of the students and big thank you to our coaches Mr Nathan, Mr Gallagher, Ms Cass and Ms Lutrell.
