I have recently been reading an excellent report from the Lego Foundation about developing cultures of creativity. The report (p5) makes the important point that "Young children arrive at school with a creative mindset, but this is often eroded or even erased by conventional educational practices." I am pleased to say that at ISS creativity is something we value strongly and students are daily encouraged to think of novel and creative ideas as well as being empowered with the skills and knowledge to carry out those ideas. We are also lucky to live in Singapore where students have many opportunities to explore their creativity outside, as well as inside, school.
This month I would like to draw your attention to the Singapore Maker Festival 2014 which is organising a range of events, many of them free, over the coming weeks.
