Key to our discussions was the importance of student agency, or ownership over their learning. how do we create students who are active participants in their own learning rather than passive recipients of learning. To put it simply students who know how to learn rather than students who have learning done to them. This is something I see everyday at ISS with students enthusiastically engaged with learning about deep issues.
An important part of this ownership is that students are present and play an active part in meetings with parents and teachers to explain their learning and the goals for the coming weeks.
This years first 3 Way Conference will take place on 5th November.
Parents will have the chance to discuss their child's learning with their child and both their child's class teacher and integrators (Mandarin, PE, Music, Art). Parents should sign up for an appointment time using the links below:

Another theme that came up in our discussions in The Hague was that PYP Schools should be communities of learners with parents, teachers and students all working together to ensure the success of the learning in the school. At ISS we are very lucky to have such an active PTA and there are two important PTA events coming up soon.
The first is a social event 'Rock and Treat' on Friday 31st from 4:30 -6:30 at Paterson.
the second is the monthly PTA meeting on 3rd November from 1:00- 2:25 in the MPR room. This month Mel Hughes the High School Principal will be talking about 'Handling teen isssues' and Ken Lee will be talking about the new ISS uniforms.
