You may have heard your children talking about the 4 Be's. The Be's are 4 aspects of behaviour that we ask students to reflect upon in order to make ISS the safe, warm welcoming environment it is. They help to provide ISS with a vocabulary for students to become more self aware of the impact of their own actions and, as they grow to develop self increasing self discipline. You may like to use the same language at home to help your child to reflect on their actions.
These Be's are:
- Be Respectful
- Be Honest
- Be Responsible
- Be Safe
Microwave Use
There are a number of safety issues in relation to the use of the microwave in the cafeteria by Grades 3-5 students. These have been related to students over heating food and carrying extremely hot food containers. Students have also been placing metallic items into the microwaves. Fortunately due to the attentions of staff none of these have resulted in an accident, however it is important that the school is proactive in protecting the safety of students.
For this reason as of Monday the Microwave is not to be used by Elementary School Students to re heat food.
I would ask that parents providing home lunches for their children do not provide them with food that requires reheating in the microwave.
ManageBac
All parents should by now have received log in details of the school's ManageBac site. Returning parents have the same log in as last year.
You can log in to ManageBac via the link to the school's website.
As a parent ManageBac enables you to:
- Have a clear picture of what your son/daughter is doing at school.
- Access your son/daughter’s report cards
- Keep the contact information the school holds for you up to date
For those of you opening ManageBac for the first time:
- Click on the profile tab and check that the contact information the school holds about you is correct and make any changes or additions as required.
- Check that all of your children are linked to your profile section
Mr Gallagher has created this video to help you use ManageBac https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgOr4z9GiRk
If you have had any difficulty logging in or have not received your log in details please email: [email protected]
PPU Pick
When picking your children up from the PPU rooms at the end of the day please wait for your child to be brought to the door of the PPU room so that we can ensure that all children are going home with the correct adult. To help make this process as smooth as possible please could parents wait slightly back from the door of the PPU Room to give space for students to be handed over to their parents by the duty teacher.
Parent Evening
It was great to see so many of you here last Thursday for the IB information night. Next Wednesday evening (5:30-7:30) will provide you a chance to meet your child's teacher and find out more about how the learning at ISS is organised.
I look forward to seeing many of you here on that day.
The timeline for the evening is as follows:
5:30- 5:45- Introduction by Mr Pinchbeck
5:45- 6:15 - Meet the specialist teachers in the Multi Purpose Room (MPR) on the 3rd floor.
6:30- 6:55 - First session with class teachers'
7:05- 7:30 - Second session with class teachers'
NB: The two sessions with class teachers are the same to allow parents with siblings to attend sessions with more than one teacher or parents unable to attend the first session to come to the second.
This event is a parent event. If you are unable to find alternative childcare arrangements for the evening I will be able to supervise a small number of students in the Library during the class teachers sessions.
