One of the greatest things that a school can do to promote student enthusiasm for learning is to allow them to create products meaningful to them and share them with people they care about. This was clear at Thursday's presentation by Grade 4 of their learning from their current body systems unit. It was wonderful to see the deep learning and enthusiasm displayed by our students as they shared their learning with friends, family and teachers.
Reminder of Safety Issues
An incident has been reported to us that some of our Grade 8 students were approached after school in ION by a mid 30's man, who asked to become friends with them and asked for their phone numbers to chat on a daily basis.
The students involved acted very responsibly in not providing any information to the man and informing their parents. ISS have contacted the police who are now aware of this matter.
I would not want to blow this incident out of proportion but is does highlight that, safe though Singapore is, students still need to be aware of how to react if approached either online or in person in a way that makes them uncomfortable.
As part of our ongoing Pastoral Programme we discuss safety issues with students at school and I would advise parents to also find a suitable opportunity in the coming days to reinforce, in an age appropriate manner, with your child that they should never give out private information such as phone numbers to strangers whether you meet them in person or on line, and you should never go anywhere with an adult you do do not know.
